About PSSLANC
It has been revealed that scores of security companies fail to provide their workers with medical benefits and provident fund due to the workers despite deducting millions from their salaries for the same service as part of a bargaining council agreement. Even worse, some security companies do not allocate money for healthcare benefits and provident funds thus pickpocketing the workers, as these benefits end up being assigned to owners and senior managers, as profits and bonuses respectively – a sophisticated way of stealing from poorly paid security officers.
The leadership of AWU, KAWU, NUMSA and SATAWU, guided by their revolutionary consciousness and the Marxist slogan “Workers of the world unite”, are clear that workers united can never be defeated, as they have nothing to lose except their chains! Fourteen unions in the private security sector have signed the Main Collective Agreement, including: SAIWU, PTAWU, SANSAWF, and DETAWU.
We believe the fight against exploitation of security officers isn’t about charity, but about justice and equality. Our foundation is based on our relentless quest to represent, defend and advise private security sector stakeholders toempower security officers to hold their employers to account.
Whether running cutting-edge grassroots campaigns; opening criminal cases against directors of corrupt companies or lobbying government to stop doing business with non-compliant companies, the PSSLANC, through its #PayBackTheMoney campaign, pressures non-compliant and unscrupulous service providers to do more to fully comply with the Main Collective Agreement (MCA) of the National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Sector (NBCPSS).
PSSLANC partners come from every walk of life. They’re political parties and activists, media, and federation of unions. They act day in, day out — organising, mobilising, educating, and advocating to liberate poorly paid security officers from the yoke of rich but greedy bosses.
Co-founded by Private Security Sector labour unions, for Private Security Sector workers, PSSLANC is strictly nonpartisan and does not solicit funding from the public or receive government funds. It is funded almost entirely by the unions, individual philanthropists and corporate partners.
Purpose and Values
The Private Security Sector Labour Unions Against Non-Compliance (PSSLANC) represents the views and interests of the majority of labour unions organising in the Private Security Sector in SA. It is mandated to act according to specific purposes and within agreed values and in the best interest of the security officers.
Defend…and Advance!
The main purpose of the PSSLANC is to defend the hard-fought gains workers made when they signed the NBCPSS’ Main Collective Agreement (MCA). Compliance with the MCA includes, inter alia:
- registration with the Private Security Sector Provident Fund
- registration for health insurance
- payment of levies
- payment of a minimum wage and overtime work when it is due.
In Fulfilling this Purpose, the Private Security Sector Labour Unions Against Non-Compliance will:
Defend the interest of security officers in all matters of mutual interest between themselves and their employers to improve the standard of living of union members, workers and the working class in general. As progressive trade unions, we shall never apologise for standing up for the poor and working class. We shall never apologise for asserting the constitutional rights of workers. We shall never apologise for demanding a better life for our members including quality private healthcare, provident fund, minimum wage and overtime pay.
To this end, the PSSLANC established the popular worker-driven #PayBackTheMoney campaign to advance the rights of security officers by ensuring that employers fully comply and adhere to the laws of the country that give life to the MCA. The security officers see the MCA as a document giving expression to their rights as security officers, and the rights of employers. When employers violate these laws and the MCA, they violate the security officers and their families.
PARTNERS
The pre-distinguished labour unions, Awu, Kawu, Numsa, Sansawf and Satawu agreed to have a campaign focusing on liberating security officers from the exploitation by greedy bosses and corrupt senior managers in the Private Security Sector. To this end, the pre-eminent labour unions established the steering committee which provides advisory support to the campaign.
